CADS’ Chief Operating Officer Farley Mesko Presents at Google’s INFO Summit

Farley Mesko presented on social networks and Somali piracy after a panel on identifying and using critical nodes to disrupt illicit networks. His talk focused specifically on the 2008 hijacking of the Saudi Arabian oil tanker Sirius Star and examined the networks of individuals and organizations connected financially and socially to the hijackers. He also looked at the ways in which licit and illicit networks are related.

The Google INFO Summit (Illicit Networks: Forces in Opposition) was held July 16th – 18th. It was hosted by Google Ideas in conjunction with Tribeca Enterprises and the Council on Foreign Relations.

USAID Invites CADS to Frontiers in Development Forum

The Center attended USAID’s Frontiers in Development Forum, held at Georgetown University from June 11th through June 13th. The event focused on the future of development efforts worldwide and challenges to these efforts, underscoring the need for the security and development communities to seek a closer partnership. Speakers and panelists included presidents of developing nations, the NATO Supreme Allied Commander, and U.S. members of Congress, as well as business leaders, development practitioners, and other stakeholders.
