As a China analyst with the State-Sponsored Threats Program at C4ADS, Coby focuses on the PRC defense-industrial complex, PRC outbound investment, and other areas pertaining to the PRC economy.
Before coming to C4ADS, Coby was a researcher at the Center for a New American Security, a Washington D.C. think tank where he published several reports about the intersection of American technology and China policy. He has also written for other publications like the LA Review of Books, Foreign Policy, the Forward, the Wire China, and the National Interest.
Coby earned his undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies from Princeton University, and also spent some time in the philosophy department at Tsinghua University in Beijing. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies, reading, and anything outdoors.
