Workshop: Flight Tracking with Icarus
On November 4, 2021, the Global Investigative Journalism Network will host a workshop with C4ADS at the 12th Global Investigative Journalism Conference to showcase Icarus Flights (our new flight tracking tool).
Tracking aircraft around the world — from autocrat shopping trips to warlord arms shipments — has never been easy. Here’s a game-changer. Washington-based nonprofit C4ADS has released Icarus Flights, a robust new system that promises to help journalists find and background nearly any flight or aircraft. The Icarus tool kit includes transponder data, aircraft ownership records, and analytical tools.
Every two years since 2001, the world’s investigative journalism community has joined together in a different city, and the results have been extraordinary. The GIJCs are giant training conferences, with practical panels and workshops on the latest investigative techniques, data analysis, cross-border collaboration, networking, and more by the best journalists in the field. Our conferences have trained over 8,000 journalists and helped lead to the founding of investigative teams, nonprofit newsrooms, and headline-making stories around the world.
