Deanna Buba
Growing up in New England developed Deanna’s passion for the outdoors and her desire to protect the earth inspires her to work on environmental issues. She graduated from American University with a degree in Environmental Studies and a Certificate in Leadership and Ethical Development and is currently finishing her master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Policy at Johns Hopkins University. Her capstone project addresses how environmental peacebuilding can be used as a national security strategy to counter global terrorism. Her interests lie at the intersection of environmental sustainability, public health, gender studies, and global security.
Deanna recently worked in the international development sector doing project management for USAID contracts. Previously, she also interned with the Umande Trust in Nairobi, Kenya where she addressed issues related to gender-based violence in the WASH sector. Additionally, Deanna has administrative and teaching experience in elementary education. All of these varying experiences help give Deanna a versatile view of the world’s most complex problems.
