Breaking the Bank – Building Policies to Support Justice and Accountability in Sudan
On July 13, 2022, C4ADS will host a virtual panel discussion and presentation on our newly published report mapping the Sudanese deep state, featuring experts from Sudanese and American policy communities.
This event brings together Sudan experts from around the DC area to reflect on Breaking the Bank, a recently published C4ADS report. The report includes the most extensive publicly available mapping of Sudanese state-controlled enterprises to date and highlights how the deep state evades international pressure and obstructs civilianization through its grasp over Sudan’s economy.
The international community has the tools to enact economic pressure and weaken this grip. But almost ten months after the October 2021 coup, strong rhetoric against deep-state actors has yet to be matched by action. In this moderated panel and facilitated Q&A, experts from Sudanese and American policy communities will discuss what steps the international community should take to move Sudan towards democracy.
