In October 2023, we mapped the relationship between Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region-based mines in China and global networks of finance and trade — ultimately linking hundreds of the biggest corporations in the Western world with these high-risk facilities, notorious for their flagrant and unmistakable use of forced labor. Now, we’re following up on that analysis with this eye-opening visual exploration of the previously unknown connections between the Chinese Communist Party, mining companies operating in XUAR, and American corporations and consumers.
