The Bottom Line Up Front

C4ADS is proud to introduce Triton, a new tool created to equip our partners in the counter-IUU fishing space with the data they need to understand the multilayered relationships between industrial fishing vessels and the entities that control them.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Today, C4ADS is proud to introduce Triton, a groundbreaking tool crafted to equip our partners in the counter-IUU fishing space with the data they need to understand the complex relationships between industrial fishing vessels and the entities that control them.

Powered by a one-of-a-kind vessel ownership database, Triton represents a significant leap forward in the battle against illegal fishing practices. Drawing from diverse data sources worldwide, Triton equips regulators, civil society, journalists, and law enforcement agencies with the means to explore the intricate linkages between industrial fishing vessels and the companies reaping profits from their operations.

“At C4ADS, we’re committed to providing transparency to help protect the environmental and human security of our oceans,” said Sam McGovern, IUU Fishing Portfolio Manager at C4ADS. “With Triton, we’re bringing the power of world-class open-source analysis to the fingertips of those fighting on the frontlines against illicit fishing networks.”

For years, C4ADS has provided crucial support to partners around the globe through data provision and capacity building initiatives. Recognizing the potential of advanced technology to further enhance these efforts, Triton was born. By assembling and structuring the first-ever repository of beneficial ownership data for the world’s industrialized fishing fleets, Triton unlocks unprecedented insights into the complex web of actors behind illegal fishing activities.

Triton’s innovative network-building feature offers users the ability to visualize and understand the operations of bad-acting corporate fisheries from the ground—or sea—up. By exposing these bad actors, Triton empowers a global network of government agencies, private sector entities, and civil society organizations to work collaboratively towards ensuring a sustainable future for our oceans.

With Triton, C4ADS reaffirms its commitment to leveraging innovation in the service of global security and environmental protection. Together with its partners, C4ADS continues to lead the charge against illicit networks, safeguarding the health and vitality of our oceans for the benefit of all. Triton will only grow from here as we continue to add new data and new features. While free to use, Triton is still invite-only. If you’d like to request access, please fill out and submit the relevant form, available here.
