Atrocity Detection & Monitoring
Building innovative methods to gather evidence and hold perpetrators of human rights abuses, crimes against humanity, and mass atrocities accountable.
Mass atrocities and war crimes — particularly crimes targeting civilians in remote areas — destroy communities, cause mass instability, and undermine the security of entire regions. Yet, they continue to occur with little recourse, either because they don’t meet the threshold of international news reporting, or because they occur in dangerous, data-sparse environments where evidence is hard to collect.
C4ADS uses Publicly Available Information and custom-built software tools to document and expose those activities, enabling the international community to hold human rights abusers accountable. Whether its gathering thousands of data points to explain information-manipulation tactics ahead of the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar, or documenting mass atrocities via geospatial imagery, our methods enable us to chronicle human rights abuses that would otherwise go unnoticed. By identifying risk factors for potentially vulnerable populations and supporting an international network of partners, we work to bring justice to victims and prevent future violence.
